Actually it’s not difficult to identify counterfeit NGK spark plugs.

The original NGK spark plug has a terminal stud with smooth thread and M4 standard, while counterfeit spark plug generally has a rough thread. The color of Insulator part is ivory white, because it is made from Aluminium Oxide with quality equal to Ruby, which is the material widely used as steel cutter. On the other hand, counterfeit spark plug has a white ceramic color, because it is made from porcelain materials, which is often used as materials for dish plate. In addition, the marking of spark plug type is improper, with inproportional distance between letters. Gasket on NGK spark plug do not easily fall off, because these directly imported from Japan goods, are using a sophisticated technology to produce. On the other hand, gasket of counterfeit spark plugs will easily fall off to the tip of the thread.

If you want to be more sure, you can see the color of metal shell plating of genuine NGK spark plugs, which is Trivalent CR3+, notice its difference with the counterfeit products which have shiny silver plating. Tip electrode of genuine NGK spark plug is made from Nickel with an even cutting and standardized gap size, compare it with counterfeit spark plug which was made from normal iron, with uneven cutting. The welding technique used by counterfeit product is also imperfect, and physically can be easily noticed. Be smart by always choosing the genuine NGK spark plugs, for protecting your vehicle.
