Spark plugs technology developed by NGK is supported by innovation change on the details, which continuously applied by a team of experienced researcher. Initially, mixture of air and gasoline are still using rich condition, therefore narrow gap of spark plug can ignite the engine with ease. At the dawn of the era of more stringent emission control and demands for the use of a more efficient fuel, narrow gap spark plug can no longer be used. Since wider spark gap will produce larger sparks, so even a thin mixture of gasoline will be ignited properly.
NGK develops a technology of V grooved tip electrode. Smaller tip electrode surface can reduce resistance during ignition, so bigger sparks will be produced due to sparks that developed outside the spark gap.
